With the new late model rear end and brakes, I needed to adapt the emergency brake assembly to my 1939 frame and e-brake controls. I purchased a NOS brake cable assembly (fits 1964 Ford Fairlane I think) part number C4DZ2A635D. It required that I fabricate two retention brackets that would hold the outer cable ends to the car's frame.

I just used some scrap steel which I bent, drilled, and welded a reinforcement to the side for rigidity. I also cut a slot for the cable to slip into, since I was using a continuous loop cable.

Two of these brackets were welded to the inside frame rails at a point where the "pull" from the rear brake drums was fairly inline.

I chose this point to weld the brackets (where the X member meets the side rail, just in front of my new spring mounts).

The red arrow indicates where I scraped off the black paint so I would have good contact for the welds.

This shows the bracket welded in place and repainted black. The picture also shows the new parking brake assembly in place.
Another photo showing the parking brake cable from its connection at the rear brake drum (passenger side). I located a set of 16" steel wheels from a 1949 Ford that have the 4-1/2" bolt pattern I'm now using.
